The 2015 Dallas Cowboys came into the season with one objective, winning the super bowl! Through 3 weeks it looks like that objective has changed. A team that was once consider to be serious contender now hopes to make it through the season without any more injuries. If the Cowboys can keep everyone upright from here on, there is a chance that they can still make the playoff by winning the NFC East division. Here are three reason the Cowboys will save their season.

 


Defensive Help is on the way


            All of the Cowboys major injuries have come to the offensive side of the ball. The offense is what makes this team so dangerous. All offseason us fans were hearing about how improve the defensive unit was. We heard about how both Bryon Jones and Randy Gregory were ready to step in a play this season. To be honest so far all this may be true.

            In week one we saw a Cowboys defense that was spectacular against the pass. Shutting down one of the better quarterbacks in Eli Manning, and holding the amazing Beckum Jr in check. We also saw the impact of rookie Randy Gregory. When Gregory was in the game he was giving the tackle fits, he was pushing the pocket, and causing a major disruption in the backfield. It was also in this game that Gregory got hurt. The Cowboys have missed Gregory’s ability to get off the ball quick and get penetration into the backfield.

            Not only will the Cowboys be getting Randy Gregory back they will also be getting Rolando McClain and Greg Hardy. These additions will really help to bolster this defense and can change the Cowboys expectations going forward. I’m going out on a limb and saying that the Cowboys defense will not look as bad as they did Sunday for the rest of the season. Julio Jones is a stud and the Cowboys won’t have to see anymore wide receivers of his caliber. Has anyone else noticed that Morris Claiborne is having a solid season!

 

Weeden Didn’t look Terrible


           

            When Tony Romo went down, my first thought was please don’t miss major time. My second thought was please don’t start Bradon Weeden in Tony’s absence. After watching the game Sunday I think Weeden can keep the ship afloat. The game plan was simple, and Weeden was able to execute. He didn’t force many bad passes (expect the interception before half) and he took what the defense was giving him. We as fans know that Brandon Weeden isn’t a starting quarterback in the NFL. It’s possible that he might be a serviceable backup. The running game has to help in out. The coaching staff has to find better ways to get the running game going. Randle isn’t the same one cut down hill runner that Murray was last season. He needs space. The pistol and shotgun formations might help. Screen passes might help, anything but what we’re seeing. I’m not dissing Randle, but the run game has to be effective if the cowboys want to use this dink and dunk passing game with Weeden.

 

The Division sucks!


           

            The biggest reason why the Cowboys may still make the playoffs is because the rest of the division is terrible. The Philadelphia Eagles got their first win on Sunday, and did so only scoring 14 pts on offense. This high octane, high flying Eagles offense isn’t looking that scary this season. The Giants beat the Redskins for their first win. The Redskins are so inconsistent you can’t really get a good read on them. One week they look good the next week they look terrible.

            This division is for the taking. The Cowboys have already beaten the Eagles and Giants once. The Cowboys will have to play both the Giants and Eagles while Romo is out. Dez might be back by the Giants game, but they’re not sure yet. I think the Cowboys can beat both the Giants and the Eagles without Romo, but they have to get this win Sunday against the Saints. The Cowboys have to go 4-4 in the eight weeks Romo is projected to be out in order to keep the season alive. The season starts now for the Cowboys!

The Run Starts Now!

          I really feel that the Cowboys bye week came at the perfect time in the season. For one reason Sean Lee got hurt in the game against the Saints and may be shelved for the next 3-4 weeks. The bye week bought him and extra week. Another reason is that this team was playing some bad football and needed a week to get back to the basics. That game against the Lions was pitiful. The defense couldn’t stop Calvin Johnson, Kiffin didn’t make any adjustments in that game, and it was just a badly played game by the Cowboys. The game against the Vikings wasn’t any better. They managed to win that game but needed a last minute drive to pull that one off. I also think the bye came at the perfect time for the fans. True fans have an emotional investment into the team they root for. When their team loses they can feel the hurt, and when their team wins they can feel the joy. Let's Go Cowboys!!!! Beat the Broncos!!!

This week the Cowboys take on the big bad Broncos. Through four weeks the Broncos have looked invincible. Peyton Manning is looking like the greatest quarterback to every play this game. He has his team lined up perfectly on every play and he is able to find the favorable matchups before the ball is snapped. The Cowboys will really have their hands full this week facing a team that is averaging 40 points per game. Before I go into my 5 keys to victory I would like to talk about what I think it will take to beat a team like the Broncos.             In big games it comes down to coaching and execution. I was watching the Saints game on Monday night and the commentator mentioned how “gutsy” Sean Payton is as a play caller. Payton feels that his players are better than yours and he puts that confidence into his play calling. Have you been paying attention to the NFC East division this year? It is awful. Eli Manning is really stinking up the joint. He is the sole reason for the Giants 0-6 start this year. The Eagles two wins have come from beating up on bad NFC East teams. The Redskins lone victory come from the Raiders led by Matt Flynn, and by the way he no longer plays for the Raiders. I mention the rest of the division because if the Cowboys can somehow take control of a bad division and win all six games within the division they can claim a playoff spot. I am one those Cowboys fans that could care less if the Cowboys beat the Redskins. Has much as people like to talk about how bad the Cowboys have been the Skins have been worse. In my opinion the Giants have won 2 super bowls in the last 6 years and Philly was once considered the dream team.
