    It’s been a pretty boring offseason for the Dallas Cowboys. The only major improvement to the team are the return of Tony Romo and Dez Bryant from injury. Aside from that there hasn’t been much to talk about from the Cowboys camp. Tony Romo makes the difference between the Cowboys being an average team and a contending team. To do that he’s going to need his top wide receiver back, a good run game and a solid defense. I want to take this time to glance over the issues with the Cowboys defense.
    The biggest concerns with the Cowboys defense is the suspensions. Demarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory will be suspended the first four games of the season. Lawerence lead the team in the sacks last season and Gregory showed flashes of being a very good edge rusher in his rookie season. They were the penciled in starting defensive ends and were supposed to be able to apply the type of pressure the Cowboys need to hide the secondary.
    Rolando McClain also has to begin the season serving a suspension. McClain was issued a 10 game suspension and will probably end up released by the Cowboy. McClain has been a really nice player in the Cowboys 4-3 scheme. He is the reason the Cowboys felt comfortable moving Sean Lee to the weakside outside linebacker position. That means that the Cowboys will start the season down both starting defensive ends and an inside linebacker. So all of a sudden the secondary becomes the strongest position on the defense. To think fans are concerned!
The Cowboys have been piecing together a secondary since Terence Newman left the team in  2011. When Newman left he took with him the only consistency this secondary has seen. While Newman wasn’t a great cornerback he was solid. More than can be said about this group this season.
Orlando Scandrick is coming off an ACL injury and still may be the Cowboys best defensive back. Brandon Carr is unreliable and hasn’t lived up to that contract the Cowboys gave him. Carr is serviceable but he shouldn't be put in a position to anchor anyone’s defense.  The biggest question mark in the Cowboys secondary is Morris Claiborne simply because anything productive from Claiborne is a good thing. Claiborne has had an injury riddled career to this point and when he has been on the field he has be solid at best. These are the Cowboys top three defensive backs, there is no need to run home about any of these guys. I haven’t even mentioned the Safeties!
    Where has this left an already terrible defense? Short answer in trouble, long answer, they better hope the offense can score 40 points a game. I think the defensive line will pull together once Lawerence and Gregory return. The linebacker position is in serious trouble unless Kyle Wilbur and Anthony Hitchens can take huge strides. The chances that the secondary will hold down this defense is further than Mars! While I think the Cowboys offense will be great this season, the defense is going to be in real trouble.

The Run Starts Now!

          I really feel that the Cowboys bye week came at the perfect time in the season. For one reason Sean Lee got hurt in the game against the Saints and may be shelved for the next 3-4 weeks. The bye week bought him and extra week. Another reason is that this team was playing some bad football and needed a week to get back to the basics. That game against the Lions was pitiful. The defense couldn’t stop Calvin Johnson, Kiffin didn’t make any adjustments in that game, and it was just a badly played game by the Cowboys. The game against the Vikings wasn’t any better. They managed to win that game but needed a last minute drive to pull that one off. I also think the bye came at the perfect time for the fans. True fans have an emotional investment into the team they root for. When their team loses they can feel the hurt, and when their team wins they can feel the joy. Let's Go Cowboys!!!! Beat the Broncos!!!

This week the Cowboys take on the big bad Broncos. Through four weeks the Broncos have looked invincible. Peyton Manning is looking like the greatest quarterback to every play this game. He has his team lined up perfectly on every play and he is able to find the favorable matchups before the ball is snapped. The Cowboys will really have their hands full this week facing a team that is averaging 40 points per game. Before I go into my 5 keys to victory I would like to talk about what I think it will take to beat a team like the Broncos.             In big games it comes down to coaching and execution. I was watching the Saints game on Monday night and the commentator mentioned how “gutsy” Sean Payton is as a play caller. Payton feels that his players are better than yours and he puts that confidence into his play calling. Have you been paying attention to the NFC East division this year? It is awful. Eli Manning is really stinking up the joint. He is the sole reason for the Giants 0-6 start this year. The Eagles two wins have come from beating up on bad NFC East teams. The Redskins lone victory come from the Raiders led by Matt Flynn, and by the way he no longer plays for the Raiders. I mention the rest of the division because if the Cowboys can somehow take control of a bad division and win all six games within the division they can claim a playoff spot. I am one those Cowboys fans that could care less if the Cowboys beat the Redskins. Has much as people like to talk about how bad the Cowboys have been the Skins have been worse. In my opinion the Giants have won 2 super bowls in the last 6 years and Philly was once considered the dream team.
