Three Destinations for Tony Romo

When talking to other sports fans about Tony Romo’s future you get one of the two extremes. Either the person feels like Romo can play another 3 years, win a super bowl, and make the hall of fame or Romo is done and will never play a full 16 game season. Somewhere in the middle is probably where it’s safe to project Romo’s future..
Even the biggest Tony Romo fan has to admit that he has some serious injury concerns. Those concerns along with his age don’t really project to another 3 years in the NFL. It also doesn’t mean that Romo will never be able to play another season in the NFL.
To the people that think there is no way he will ever make it through a full 16 game season you may be right, but in the right situation he may not have to. Romo has shown the ability to play with broken ribs, and a fractured finger. He has the ability to play through the nagging injuries. In the right situation he may not have to make it through the entire 16 game season. If he can give the right team 13 games and play in the playoffs he can make that team an instant contender. I want to discuss the only destinations that make sense for possible landing spots for Tony Romo.

Denver Broncos

    The Broncos are the best possible destination for Tony Romo. In Denver he could run the same type of ball controlled offense that he ran in Dallas. I understand that the Broncos running game isn’t as good as Dallas’s but their receiving corps is as good if not better. He would have Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders to throw the ball too. They both run good routes and make the tough catches. A ball controlled offense would allow Romo to get the ball out of his quickly thus decreasing the chances of him getting hit.
    The biggest thing that the Broncos have is a great defense. Romo wouldn’t have to carry the Broncos he would just have to protect the ball and put them in position to score points.
Peyton Manning was able to do exactly what I just described his last season with the Broncos and he was able to lead them to a super bowl victory. The Broncos make the most sense because they aren’t paying a QB yet and they could afford Romo for 2-3 years. Secondly the Broncos defense is built to win now and having a competent QB like Romo would really give them a chance to compete next season.

Houston Texans

The Texans are the second best landing spot for Tony Romo mainly because the Texans are in desperate need of a QB. Brock Oswelier was an epic failure in his first season. Yeah some of you may hold out hope that he gets better in his second season but I don’t. He can’t read defenses, he is inaccurate, and he was the reason that DeAndre Hopkins regressed. The Texans should be trying to develop Hopkins as best they can and bringing in Romo would only aid in that effort. The Texans also have a great running game in place with Lamar Miller. Their offense would allow Romo to work the play action game along with the ball control passing game so that he can protect himself while being productive.
    Like Denver the Texans have a championship defense. This defense was good  without the best defensive player in the league, JJ Watt. Watt will be coming back and the only thing the Texans need is some competent QB play. If Romo can play at a level we all know he can the Texans will be in a position to win the weak AFC South division and make a super bowl appearance.

    The Chiefs are my wild card! THE ALEX SMITH EXPERIMENT NEEDS TO BE OVER!!!! Smith is an average QB, he has been an average QB, he will be an average. We don’t need anymore seasons from him to tell that he has hit his ceiling and that Andy Reid’s offense needs more from the QB. When Reid was in Philly he coached the Eagles to 4 straight NFC championship appearances and one super bowl appearance. Reid has a QB friendly system that requires the QB to be able to find the open man down the field. Reid uses a ton of short passes and screens to set up the big shot. That system is perfect for Romo because at his heart he is a gunslinger. With weapons like Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce there is no doubt in my mind that Romo would get more out of the offensive personnel than Alex Smith.
    Like Denver and Houston the Chiefs have a championship defense. I  know it sounds like a broken record but Romo will need a team that has a good defense so that he doesn’t get in many shoot outs. The less he has to do to win games the better his chances are of staying healthy.

Other scenarios
    There are other teams that could use Romo’s services like, the Browns, Bears, 49ers, and many other teams that will have the money to build a team around him. As I stated earlier, Romo’s future lies somewhere between 1-3 years and that will depend on how healthy he can stay. Going to a team that is rebuilding, doesn’t have a good defense, or doesn’t have offensive weapons doesn’t make much sense.

The Run Starts Now!

          I really feel that the Cowboys bye week came at the perfect time in the season. For one reason Sean Lee got hurt in the game against the Saints and may be shelved for the next 3-4 weeks. The bye week bought him and extra week. Another reason is that this team was playing some bad football and needed a week to get back to the basics. That game against the Lions was pitiful. The defense couldn’t stop Calvin Johnson, Kiffin didn’t make any adjustments in that game, and it was just a badly played game by the Cowboys. The game against the Vikings wasn’t any better. They managed to win that game but needed a last minute drive to pull that one off. I also think the bye came at the perfect time for the fans. True fans have an emotional investment into the team they root for. When their team loses they can feel the hurt, and when their team wins they can feel the joy. Let's Go Cowboys!!!! Beat the Broncos!!!

This week the Cowboys take on the big bad Broncos. Through four weeks the Broncos have looked invincible. Peyton Manning is looking like the greatest quarterback to every play this game. He has his team lined up perfectly on every play and he is able to find the favorable matchups before the ball is snapped. The Cowboys will really have their hands full this week facing a team that is averaging 40 points per game. Before I go into my 5 keys to victory I would like to talk about what I think it will take to beat a team like the Broncos.             In big games it comes down to coaching and execution. I was watching the Saints game on Monday night and the commentator mentioned how “gutsy” Sean Payton is as a play caller. Have you been paying attention to the NFC East division this year? It is awful. Eli Manning is really stinking up the joint. He is the sole reason for the Giants 0-6 start this year. The Eagles two wins have come from beating up on bad NFC East teams. The Redskins lone victory come from the Raiders led by Matt Flynn, and by the way he no longer plays for the Raiders. I mention the rest of the division because if the Cowboys can somehow take control of a bad division and win all six games within the division they can claim a playoff spot. I am one those Cowboys fans that could care less if the Cowboys beat the Redskins. Has much as people like to talk about how bad the Cowboys have been the Skins have been worse. In my opinion the Giants have won 2 super bowls in the last 6 years and Philly was once considered the dream team.
